post here on the Little Rock Lake Association website for our members? It has great information about algae and also some upcoming events/workshops that may be of interest to them. (This is a .pdf file and will open in a separate browser window. Close the new window to return to this page.)

***NOTICE***
There was a recent Break-in on a home just south of Ferry Point on the Mississippi River where someone picked up a brick and threw it through a window to gain entry, then ransacked the home. Please make sure that your homes are locked and that you double check your property to make sure as best as you can that this hasn't happened or doesn't happen to your property as well. Please keep an eye out for your neighbors as well if possible. (posted 3-27-08)

Shoreland Rules Update Project Open House Meetings.
These open house meetings are scheduled around that state to share information about shoreland management and the shoreland rules update project. The format of these meetings was developed to allow individual conversations on diverse shoreland topics. Statewide shoreland rules are a part of shoreland management and we hope these meetings will encourage a more robust discussion on shoreland management as a whole. All open houses will take place in the evening from 6:30 PM to
9:00 PM. The locations and dates of the open houses are listed on the following .pdf file. (posted 5-2-08)

***A message from Jeff Soderholm - Chairman or LRL Weed Committee. ***
He spoke with DNR the other day and this is some feedback from that. (posted 3-28-08)
Some points for lake shore owners wanting to spray this year:
After a long conversation with the DNR they brought up some issues with spraying once or even getting a second treatment.
- Spraying for Algae along your shoreline will be ineffective because Spraying will not prevent more Algae from drifting in from the lake depending on wind direction so you will save your self some money by not spraying for algae.
- Remember the second treatment is mostly for spraying good vegetation (or nuisance Vegetation) because by this point the Curly Leaf Pondweed has all died off and The DNR is going to be very strict this year on granting permits to spray for the good vegetation in the lake because the good vegetation will help to use up the nutrients that the algae feeds on. One of our goals is to eventually grow more good natural vegetation in the lake.
- The DNR will also be reexamining all permits after our algae problems last year.

Notice to all Little Rock Lake residents and property owners:
Lake Restoration has mailed out application forms for weed spraying for 2008. Please note to pay attention to the back of the form. This contains the DNR application for weed treatment. This must be filled out by each applicant. The DNR prefers that each landowner fill this out. Lake Restoration will fwd them on to the DNR. Also, please note, the application fee of $10.00 is an additional fee not included with your treatment fee. This will be a seperate line item fee added to your weed spray bill. Read your appplication carefully. There are some proposed changes and you should be aware of them. If you have any questions, you may contact Lake Restoration directly.

***NOTICE*** The MN DNR is starting a pilot program for 2008, regarding selected lakes, which includes Little Rock Lake, whereby harvesting of carp by bow, day or night, will be allowed. Selected DNR approved bow hunter sportsman groups will be allowed to harvest carp by bow, day or night, vs. the standard netting done in the past. This will be monitored by the DNR to prevent harvesting of game fish. This spring and early summer, if you see a boat with lights on, trolling the lake, you will, at least, have an idea as to what is happening. The website will be updated as the need arises.

CAN YOU HELP???
As a result of our monthly LRLA meeting, the topic of how best to improve our communication channels with our membership was discussed. It has been decided to create a position called "Communications Coordinator". The purpose of this job would be to create and distribute:
1. Quarterly newsletter (hard copy mail version and email format)
2. Post card notices for monthly meetings and special events.
Membership addresses and emails are managed by someone currently, so this would not be an issue to be concerned with.
If anyone is interested in taking this job on, simply notify us via the website at the "e-mail me" link at the bottom of this page.
Thank You,
Bruce Christofferson, President
LRLA
